The Health Center

The National Center for Health and Wellness is an organization providing free resources regarding health and wellness. Both traditional and alternative forms of well-being are supported through this amazing tool.

As a mental health resource center, it provides a lot of different reference material for all age ranges. It covers adults, teens, and children, and some of the most common mental health concerns faced by each group.

For example, in the adult category, such concerns like ADD/ADHD, anxiety, bipolar/manic depression, depression, generalized anxiety disorder, mood swings, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic attacks, social anxiety disorder, and stress are all highlighted.

In the teen category, concerns such as ADD/ADHD, anxiety, bipolar/manic depression, depression, mood swings, social anxiety disorder, and stress are covered.

In the children category, topics such as ADD/ADHD, anxiety, depression and separation anxiety are covered.

The information is provided in an easy to read, conversational format, with small paragraphs made to not overwhelm visitors with information. A brief example is provided in each category, to help the reader understand the basic concept of each condition, allowing the reader to reach for similarities in their own lives. Conveniently, each category of adult, teen and child offers different examples relevant to their age group, also allowing the reader to find similarities in their own lives.

For example, anxiety under the adult category tells the story of Melissa, a nurse has developed problems at work, interviewing patients. She has developed social anxiety. In the teen category, a story is told about Jason, a high school student, worrying about things so much he starts to feel physically ill. In the child category, the story is about a parent who is concerned about their seven-year-old behavior. The child seems to worry about everything. In each of these examples, it provides relevant points to grab the readers’ attention for that particular age range. It is well thought out and targets the specific reader for that category.

Self assessments and solutions and products are found in each section, allowing you to determine what level of care or services you might need to pursue. The self assessments have been developed to assist concerned people in determining if they may be experiencing symptoms. It is, however, only a preliminary questionnaire and should not be used to diagnose or treat any condition, disorder or disease.

Lastly, the Health Center offers products at the Wellness Mall. It offers complementary and alternative medicines, featuring solutions for anxiety, panic attacks, stress, mood enhancing products, mental clarity products, and focus, attention and memory items.

Pathological Eating Disorders and Poly-Behavioral Addiction

By James Slobodzien
According to the World Health Organization (June, 2005), “obesity has reached epidemic proportions globally, with more than 1 billion adults overweight - at least 300 million of them clinically obese - and is a major contributor to the global burden of chronic disease and disability. This article purports that the poor prognosis in treating patients with obesity may possibly be due to not diagnosing and treating thier other poly-behavioral addictions simultaneously. This systematic underdiagnostic standard in the field of addictions could be due to a lack of diagnostic tools and resources that are presently incapable of resolving the complexity of assessing and treating a patient with multiple behavioral and substance abuse addictions. The Addictions Recovery Measurement System (ARMS) is proposed as a first step in fighting this global War on Poly-behavioral Addictions.
